17/9/ · Not sure why this worked but I can speculate: I had downloaded El Capitan on my MacBook Pro and was trying to save myself the 6GB download on my iMac. Apple must have some undisclosed security feature that is there to prevent this kind of activity (that way they can have realistic number regarding the number of actual downloads of their OS). To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. There's an OS X logo in Launchpad that says 'paused' and in the App Store it says 'Waiting'. I started downloading last night, stayed up late, its stuck, then I saw that X logo and did exactly, went back to download, still it won't. i restarted many times, until I gave up. Now I started again, it just won't download.

Here's how I think I made it work: Search for any copies of the installer that you might have squirreled away. For example, I had a copy of the installer another partition. But when I tried using it, I got an error. Delete all the extra copies of the installer.
